As you know I’m participating in Sandra’s daily wst challenge all through February. (even though I haven’t posted daily… shh there are no rules. Plus Sandra likes me! ❤ )
I’m also participating in Monty’s weekly Golden Shovel Poetry Challenge.. I missed the second week.. but here’s my first week poem. Check out the rules and an example of what a Golden Shovel Poem, right here
Today’s prompt for Sandra is “six pack”
Monty’s week two prompt was “Cocoa in pods and alligator pears”, from the poem “The Tropics in New York by Claude McKay”
This week’s prompt is “I cannot rub the strangeness from my sight” from the poem After Apple Picking by Robert Frost (1874-1963)
Quick side note- I love love Robert Frost’s work. It’s so simple. SO very beautiful. My first poem of his was “Stopping by the woods on a Snowy Evening” and oh my did it take my breath away. I love the poem so much that at one point I could recite this poem from memory! 😍🥺
On to the challenges!
There was this young boy, the shade of cocoa who always preferred to travel in pairs, like pea's in pods Off we went to forests far and came across the mighty alligator we ran and ran till we reached the grove of pears And he says, " I cannot believe that we ran that fast. Cannot believe that we're safe.", he proceeds to rub his eyes. He soaks in the solitude and that's when he sees me with strangeness like I never existed before this moment. From my eyes to my six pack his gaze follows, "My my my", he exclaims. I now feel alive under his sight
How did I do??
Let me know what you think!
Because when I re-read this post I just realised this would be an ideal spot to commit a crime, lol. And the whole poem changes it’s meaning. Creepy how “love” and “stalkery” sound so similar.
Also I have been reading a lot of rom-com lately. Explains the poem! (You can follow me on my goodreads) But I haven’t been feeling my usual self after I read the books. Maybe it’s me, maybe it’s the books!
People we meet on Vacation was SAD. Second First Impressions was a pretty decent read. I loved the side character more than the main lol. I’m now reading Don’t You Forget About Me.. I’m almost half way done but eh. I think I see the big “twist”. I don’t know if it will turn out to be that but I’m positive it’s what I have in mind. Do you have any recommendations for this genre? If so please do.. cause I think I’ll definitely stop reading this genre for a while.
